Howard Hamilton

November 30, 1930 — August 6, 2023

USAF Master Sergeant (Ret.) Howard H. Hamilton, 92, entered into rest on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Howard was born on November 30, 1930, in Scanlon, Florida to the late Elmo and Erma Hamilton. He proudly served in the United States Air Force until his retirement. However, his service to the country did not stop there; He continued working as an electronics instructor at Robins Air Force Base. He eventually moved to Florida and started his own business, Howard’s Fishing Excursions. This was the perfect retirement for Howard as he loved fishing. He loved the Lord and he sought to honor Him as a “fisher of men” (Matthew 4:18 -22). He was affectionately known as “Captain Howard.”

Captain Howard was preceded in death by the love of his life of 67 years, Joyce Chewning Hamilton; and his sweetheart who was his wife of almost two years, Jackie Hucks Morris. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandchildren, T.J. Stokes, and Jason Lee Hamilton; great-granddaughter, Magdalena Eileen McCoy; and siblings, Freddie Love Hires, and Mary Virginia Cannon.

Howard’s memory will forever be treasured by his children, Jeffrey D Hamilton (Sharon), Edwin Hamilton (Geli), Cheryl E. Pritchett (Horace) and Keith B. Hamilton; adopted children, Brink and Cathy Stokes; grandchildren, Josh Hamilton, Amanda Barb, Jonathan Hamilton, Curtis W. Wilson, Sarah Mcduffie, Daniel Hamilton, Kaylan Carter, Ben Hamilton, and Lacey; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Pat Gamble, Tommy Hamilton (Diane); brother-in-law, JD Cannon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of friends, and fishing buddies.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow in the Chapel. A second visitation will be held at Rick Gooding Funeral Home in Cross City, FL, on Friday, August 11, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with a service immediately following. Howard will be laid to rest in Cross City Cemetery. The family request that all attending please wear your favorite fishing attire: hats, shirts, fish earrings, whatever you have to honor Howard as he honored the Lord as a fisher of men.
