Ingrid de Jong Martin passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Born in The Netherlands on October 31, 1955, Ingrid was the daughter of the late Harm and Annie Viersta de Jong. Ingrid grew up in Driebergen. She worked at the local Machinist/Rubber factory before meeting and later on marrying the late Gary Lee Martin, the love of her life.
Together, they lived in Germany before settling in Byron, Georgia, where they shared thirty-three wonderful years of marriage. Ingrid thoroughly enjoyed her job helping others and retired from the State of Georgia, working within the Department of Central Georgia Rehabilitation, as a therapy technician.
In her spare time Ingrid loved to draw, sketch, and paint. She was very resourceful and there wasn’t anything she couldn't fix. As an avid animal lover, Ingrid took in any four-legged strays, nursed them back to health, and treated her beloved dogs and cats like they were her own children.
Ingrid will be remembered as caring, fun, loving, kind, and giving. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, aunt, and friend.
Ingrid is survived by her sister; Janny Stephan, Florida; stepson, Richard "Richy" Martin, Virginia; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Florida, Georgia, and in The Netherlands; great grandniece in North Carolina; as well as many close friends. Her memory will forever be treasured.
Family will gather on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with visitation following from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. for friends. A celebration of life will immediately follow at The Farmhouse located directly behind McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Ingrid De Jong Martin will be laid to rest privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Ingrid De Jong Martin to the Paws in Middle Georgia Animal Rescue at www.pawsinmidga.com.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
