On Tuesday morning, December 20, 2022, Jacqueline (Jackie) Rose Bair Davis, 84, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, at home surrounded by her family and close friends. She was born at home in Orangeburg, SC on October 27, 1938, daughter of the late Lizzie Binnicker Bair and Ernest Raymond Bair, Sr.
First and foremost, she will be remembered as a loving Christian mother, Mimi and great grandmother who always put her family and friends above herself. She loved Jesus and exemplified his love to others throughout her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Centerville for almost 60 years where she directed Bible School for several years when her children were young, served on numerous committees and taught the senior ladies Sunday School class for over 30 years. She volunteered at Christian Social Ministries and with the Appalachian Ministry through the Rehoboth Baptist Association.
Closely behind her love for the Lord and her family was her love of education and teaching. Jackie graduated from Norway High School in Norway, SC in 1956 as a valedictorian. She attended one year of college at Winthrop College in SC and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern in 1961, a Master of Education from Georgia College in 1973 and a Specialist in Education from Georgia Southwestern College in 1987, all while raising a family and helping run a family business. Jackie retired from the Houston County Board of Education in 1999 after teaching 6th grade for one year at Tucker Elementary and 5th/6th grades for 30 years at Centerville Elementary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Jameson, Ernest Bair, Jr, and Charles Bair.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, Millee Davis Sapp (Dennis) and Will Davis (Kimberly) of Warner Robins, Bonnie Davis Martin (Andy) of Cumming, and Leslie Davis Mullis of Byron, her grandchildren, Ali Sapp of St. Petersburg, FL, Drew Martin (Alexa) of Cumming, Luke Martin (Amber) of Augusta, Jake Martin (Erica) and Josh Martin of Atlanta, Tiffany Cavender (Gordon) of Statesboro, great granddaughters, Isla Martin, Emerson Martin, Fiona Martin, Sadie Cavender and Syndle Cavender, sisters-in-law, Margaret Bair of Orangeburg, S.C., Brenda Bair and Jackie Vickers of Norway, S.C., brother-in-law, Glenn Bonnette of Warner Robins, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023 at McCullough Funeral Home followed by a celebration of life ceremony at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
