James E. Stewart, Jr., 87, entered into rest on Friday, December 9, 2011.
Jim was born on August 5, 1924 in Ellaville, Georgia. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he proudly served his country during World War II. He was in the 5th Marine Division where he saw the flag raised on Iwo Jima, and later occupied Nagasaki. Jim later retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. He was a charter member of Northview United Methodist Church where he was a dedicated member and held many offices. He was also a member of the American Legion (Post 191) in Ellaville, Georgia, and his hobbies were hunting, fishing, and woodworking. His parents, James E. Stewart, Sr. and Vashti Cowart Stewart; and brother, Malone Stewart, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Carolyn F. Stewart of Warner Robins; children, Mike (Jeanette) Stewart of North Carolina and Frank Stewart of California; grandchildren, Brian (Lee) Stewart of South Carolina and Michael (Susan) Stewart of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Bradley and Sullivan Stewart of South Carolina, and Clayton Stewart of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2011 at Northview United Methodist Church with interment following at 2:00 p.m. in Ellaville City Cemetery. Reverend Kary Shumate and Dr. Frank Terry will officiate. Donations may be given to Northview United Methodist Church, 90 Tabor Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
