A service will be held to honor the life of James Edgar "Eddie" Wall, III, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016, in the Chapel of Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W Platt St, Tampa, FL. Following the service, the family will remain in the Chapel to greet friends.
James Edgar "Eddie" Wall, III, was born March 7, 1944, in Tampa, Florida. He was a descendant of Tampa's early pioneers. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edgar "Jim E" Wall, Jr., and Georgia Rudolph Wall. His younger brother, John Dixon Wall, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Erskine Wall James, and her husband, Frank Anthony James of Kansas City and Macon, his nephews Erskine Anthony James (husband of Candi Nobles-James) of Macon, and George Edgar "Eddie" James (husband of Tammy James) of Kansas City, seven great nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends. He lived many places, but always regarded Tampa as home and loved Tampa. He moved only recently to Macon where he died following a fifteen-month battle with Multiple System Atrophy, MSA.
An Eagle Scout with 32 Merit Badges (Tampa, Troop 4), Eddie Wall sought to live by the Scout Motto and loved the Boy Scouts. He was a former member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla where he was Page to Queen Puddin Helms Boyette and Courtier to King Richard Pittman. He was an early member of the Gasparilla Cannon Guild. In 1969, he was voted "Bachelor of the Year" by the local Spinsters Club in Tampa. He was a current member of the Merrymakers Club (President 1973) and of the American Legion, Post 138—Port Tampa.
He attended Tampa public schools and graduated from H. B. Plant High School in 1962. He attended St Petersburg Junior College before volunteering for the U. S. Army. He served six months in Fort Wainwright (Alaska) before he was assigned to Heidelberg, West Germany. After his service he returned to St Petersburg Junior College and later graduated from the University of South Florida. He joined Knight & Wall Wholesale Hardware and Paint Manufacturing Company, founded by his Great Uncle, Perry G. Wall and cousin, H. L. Knight in 1884 on the banks of Six Mile Creek. When the business was sold in 1980 it was Tampa's oldest store. He then sold real estate for Smith & Associates Realty before he volunteered for the U. S. Peace Corps. He was trained as a beekeeper in South Carolina and assigned to Africa where he studied Sago and French before being sent to the Central African Republic. Kella Gofi, CAR, was his home for the next two years.
After his volunteer time in the Peace Corps, he returned to Tampa and worked for the Hillsborough County History Museum before joining the Ferman Automotive Group for 17 years until he retired.
Eddie had served on the boards of the Rotary Club of Tampa, the Tampa Historical Society, Henry Plant Museum, Gulf Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts, Henry Bolesta Center for the Hearing Impaired, Ducks Unlimited (Tampa Chapter), and Rotary's Camp Florida. He is a former member of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club and Palma Ceia United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bicycling, cooking, reading, boating, hunting and photography.
His ashes will be scattered in the Wall Family plot of Oak Lawn Cemetery.
