Jane Handey Tanner, 88, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 8, 2024.
Jane was born on February 19, 1935, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late John and Ruth Handey. She grew up and graduated from high school in Montgomery, where she met her husband, Jesse Eugene “Gene” Tanner. He enlisted in the United States Air Force which took them all over the world, but England was her favorite. Anything to do with England or British culture became an interest to her as a result. In the 60s, the family settled in Warner Robins,
Georgia and Jane started a civil service career on Robins Air Force Base where she later retired. An enthusiast of aviation, she enjoyed donating to and volunteering for the local Museum of Aviation. Jane adored cats and loved to read in her spare time. Often described as loving and giving, her presence will be deeply missed by those she left behind.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Tanner and sons, Jesse Tanner, Jr. and John Tanner.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her granddaughter, Jessica Kistler (Erik) of Virginia Beach, VA; great granddaughters, Teagan and Tanner; and close friends, Kay McCoy, Marsha Clark and Cindy Simpson.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. At Magnolia Park Cemetery, where Jane will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggest memorial donations be given in memory of Jane Tanner to PAWS Middle Georgia Animal Rescue at 408 N Houston Road, Warner Robins, GA 31093 or to Gentiva Hospice at Jim Mason Court #100, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
