Jane Martin James

September 12, 1937 — January 12, 2024

 

Jane M. James, 86, passed away at Houston Medical Center on the morning of Friday, January 12, 2024. She was born on September 12, 1937, in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, to the late Clynt and Anna Stoner Martin.

 

Jane was an active swimmer having won the state title in 1955 in the 100-yard breaststroke prior to graduating from Whitefish High School. She continued her education at both Purdue University and Ball State University where she received her Master’s. She later became a professor at the University of Mary Washington. Jane was an avid golfer, having two hole in one trophies. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jane was an active member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, forging lifelong connections and contributing to the sorority's community. She was also a twenty-seven-year volunteer at the Museum of Aviation.

 

Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband of fifty-five years, Douglas B. James; children, Eric James (Andrea) of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Ian James (Meg) of Charleston, South Carolina; as well as grandchildren, Harper, Ian, Rowan, and Eric James.

 

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.
