Janie Ruth Clark Fortin

Janie Ruth Fortin, 71, passed into the hands of her Lord on the evening of Friday, October 5, 2018 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Janie was born in Portal, Georgia on February 5, 1947, daughter to the late Ruth and A.R. Clark, Jr. Raised on a farm outside of Portal, she attended Portal Elementary and graduated at the top of her class from Portal High School. Following high school, Janie attended the Women’s College of Georgia where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and later earned a Specialist Degree from West Georgia College.

From 1971 until 1987, she taught fifth grade at Bonaire Elementary School. From 1988 until 2003, Janie was a well-respected teacher for gifted students with the Houston County Board of Education and in 1980, she received the Houston County Teacher of the Year Award. A breast cancer survivor, she was an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Christ United Methodist was her church home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Sue Clark Baird.

Janie’s memory will forever be treasured by her loving husband of 47 years, Richard L. “Rick” Fortin of Warner Robins; siblings, Nita Clark Marsh (Chris) and Algia Rene Clark III (Debbie), both of Portal, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews she adored.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 9, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home; the Rev. Dr. Matt Stewart and David Carpenter officiating. Afterwards, Janie will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests generous memorial donations be given in memory of Janie to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry St., Ste A, Macon, GA 31201 or to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 277 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Ste 101, Macon, GA 31201.
