Jasper Charles Holcomb, Jr.,79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 17, 2026.

Jasper “Jackie” Holcomb was born on April 18, 1947, at Kay’s Clinic in Byron, Georgia, to the late Lt. Col. Jasper Charles Holcomb, Sr. and Helen Franklin Holcomb.

Jackie graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1965. Among the many memorable experiences of his younger years was performing with the successful band Jack and the Rippers alongside his brother, Steve. Their shared love of music brought them many special experiences and created memories and a bond that lasted a lifetime. It was through the band that Jackie met his beautiful bride, Vickie, beginning a love story that would span over five decades.

In April 1967, Jackie answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. He served as a combat medic honorably discharged in January 1970, including service in Cu Chi, Vietnam during the Tet Offensive with Company C, 25th Medical Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. During his military service, Jackie received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal, and Expert Marksmanship Badge. Following his return home from Vietnam, he continued his education and graduated from Bellevue University in Nebraska. He completed his graduate studies in Counseling Psychology at the University of Georgia in Athens. Jackie was a proud Eagle Scout and a five+ generation 32nd degree Master Mason.

Jackie began his career with the Veterans Administration in July 1974 in Washington, DC and Atlanta, where he worked until November 1983. He then began a long and distinguished career at Robins Air Force Base, initially serving as a Personnel Psychologist. He later served as a Logistics Management Specialist and retired from Robins Air Force Base on April 2, 2007, following more than two decades of dedicated service.

Away from work, Jackie found great enjoyment in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and he was avid and devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan. More importantly, he shared those passions with his family, instilling in his children and grandchildren the same love for the outdoors, time spent together, and cheering on the Dawgs. These shared traditions became treasured family memories that will continue for generations.

Jackie’s memory and spirit will live on through his beloved wife of 55 years, Vickie Rae Holcomb; his children, Dr. Tonya (Dr. Brett) Wallace of Kathleen, Georgia, and Jasper Charles Holcomb III of Fort Valley, Georgia; his grandchildren, Maggie (Javier), Daniel, Reed, and Shelby Rae; his brother, Dr. Steve (Robin) Holcomb; his sister, Cindy (Dale)

Foster; his nieces, Ashley Foster, Heather (Brad) Martin, and Dr. Rey Holcomb; his nephews, Stephan (Tiffany) Holcomb, Dr. Skyler (Sarah) Holcomb, and Chase (Kayla) Foster; as well as an extended family and countless friends from all walks of life.

To his family, Jackie was lovingly known as “Papa,” a name that reflected the role he treasured most. Above all else, Papa loved his family, and the love he had for them was evident throughout his life.

Jackie’s faith was also an important part of the man he became. Reflecting on his journey, he once said, “I tried to do it my way until I realized the Lord’s way was the only way.” His favorite passages of Scripture were John 3:16, Proverbs 3:5–6, and Deuteronomy 6:5, verses that reflected his faith and trust in the Lord.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Smile Train.
