Jean Furr Edwards, 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Perry, Georgia of natural causes.
Born in Natchez, Mississippi on June 1, 1930, Jean was the oldest child of William and Rose Young. A native of Jonesville, Louisiana, she graduated from NLU with a Master's +30 in Reading Education and served as a highly respected Louisiana public school educator for 29 years. Jean retired from the Ouachita Parish school system in 1979. She was a faithful and well-loved member of First Baptist Church in West Monroe for over 50 years.
Jean is preceded in death by her husbands, H.L. "Pete" Furr and Bobbie Edwards; her brother, John Young; and sisters, Dorothy Evans and Velda Ray Berry.
She is survived by her sisters, Eva "Fro" Davis, Ann Taylor, Rosemary McGowen, and brother, David Young, as well as her children, Leslie Furr, John Furr, Kathy Furr, Joel Furr, Joan Hurder, and step daughter, Brenda Edwards, and their respective families. She has 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in W. Monroe. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Central Baptist Church in Wisner, Louisiana. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in honor of Jean to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, 7200 DeSiard St., Monroe, LA 71203.
