Jim R. Devane, a devoted follower of Christ, loving husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 8, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born on October 31, 1930, in Ellaville, Georgia, Jim was the son of the late Bennie and Kittie Lou Fulford Devane. Above all else, Jim was a man of deep and unwavering faith. His life was a living testimony to his love for Christ, and he consistently reflected that love in the way he treated others. He set a powerful Christian example for his family and community—one marked by humility, kindness, and steadfast trust in the Lord.
On November 27, 1951, Jim married the love of his life, Annie Laura Albritton, in Ideal, Georgia. Their 70-year marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, faithfulness, and devotion. Together, they built a strong, Christ-centered home and raised their family with values that reflected their shared faith. Jim was a true family man who led by example, teaching his children not only to remain humble and kind, but also that when life becomes difficult, the answer is not just to stand—but to kneel in prayer.
After graduating from Schley County High School in 1948, Jim began his career with the State Highway Department. He later worked in Americus and Buena Vista before beginning a long and distinguished career at Robins Air Force Base on June 21, 1954. He retired on March 31, 1993, as a GS-12 Quality Assurance Specialist/Analyst after 39 years of dedicated service, earning numerous awards for his outstanding performance.
Jim’s faith was not only something he professed—it was something he practiced daily. A faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Warner Robins since 1956, where he was saved on June 24 of that year. Over the decades, he served in many roles including Sunday School teacher, Training Union leader, Chairman of Ushers, Chairman of Deacons, Brotherhood Secretary, and Vice President of the Second Baptist Corporation. He also helped lead major stewardship efforts that supported the growth of the church. In recognition of his unwavering dedication, he was honored with a certificate for 56 years of Sunday School ministry.
Jim lived by Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” This verse was not just something he read—it was the foundation upon which he built his life.
In his quieter moments, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening, finding peace in God’s creation.
Jim’s life leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, love, and integrity. He showed his family and all who knew him what it truly means to walk with Christ, to love deeply, and to lead with grace. While he will be greatly missed, his example will continue to guide and inspire for generations to come.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Laura Devane; siblings, Dora Virginia, Charles (Laverne), Willie (Alice), Lewis (Glenn, Helen), and Barney.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Randy Devane (Donna), Jimmy Devane, and Wanda Cranford; grandchildren, Jason Cranford (Jennifer), Justin Cranford, April Davis (Taylor), and Ashley Cardwell (Alan); great-grandchildren, Thomas Cranford, Savannah Harbin, McKenzie Davis, Madison Davis, Ada Ruby Cardwell, Annie Cardwell, and Ashlin Cardwell and three great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, April 10, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following. Afterward, Jim will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Baptist Church, 2504 Moody Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
