John Odus Adams, Jr., 66, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

John was born on December 8, 1959, in Lawrenceville, Georgia to the late John O. and Erline Patrick Adams. He was raised in Gwinnett County and graduated from Gwinnett County High School. Following graduation, John started his own dump truck company, John Adams Hauling, and ran it successfully before pursuing a career in engineering. He went on to work as a Project Manager for several different Engineering Firms and traveled a lot for the business he did with the DOT. Around this same time, he served as a Deputy Sheriff with St John the Baptist Sheriff Department in LaPlace, Louisiana.

John married the love of his life, Janet Adams, in 1994, and the two of them worked together to raise their son, Cody. John was a family man through and through, and loved spending time with his wife, son, and eventually his granddaughters, Haley and Katie. He was a jokester, always looking for ways to tease, but it always came from a place of endearment and love.

In his free time, John enjoyed traveling to monster truck shows, mud racing, and watching Nascar races. He was also an outdoorsman and liked camping.

John was an outspoken, friendly, and funny individual who never met a stranger. He made friends with everyone he met and had a way of putting you at ease. He was dedicated to his family and friends, leaving behind a litany of jokes, moments, and memories that serve as a comfort in this difficult time.

His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife, Janet Adams; his son, Cody Adams; his granddaughters, Haley and Katie Adams; his sisters, Barbara Adams Martin (Tim) and Donna Adams Hinton (Tim); his nieces, Meredith Martin Porter (Chad) and Brianna Hinton Hughes (Kelby), and nephews, Matthew Martin (Madison) and Brandon Hinton; his special “daughter,” Samantha Adams Mangrum; and many aunts and cousins, along with a host of extended family and friends.

The family wishes to extend their thanks for the help they received from the doctors and nurses at MICU and Atrium, and to the staff at Pine Point, as well as to all the family and friends who have reached out in this difficult time. They want to offer a special thanks to Wando Jo Sullivan and Donna Sullivan-Perreault for their unwavering support while John was in the hospital right up until the end.

The family will host a memorial gathering at McCullough Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Afterward, a memorial service will be held in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of John to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at stjude.org.

For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/@McCulloughFuneralHome via the McCullough Funeral Home’s YouTube page.
