John Franklin Burke, Jr., 60, entered into rest on August 20, 2008.
Mr. Burke was born on July 5, 1948 in Macon. He graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with an associate degree in Farm Equipment Technology. He retired after thirty-five years as a Special Agent with CSX Railroad. With pride and honor, he served his country in the Army National Guard. A well known outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, who also loved to garden. Mr. Burke was also a craftsman with wood and metal, and enjoyed making barbeque grills. He was very skilled with his hands and loved to cook. He loved using all these skills to help other people. His father, John Franklin Burke, preceded him in death.
Family members include his wife, Donna Burke; stepdaughter, Darci Antinelli; stepson, Donnie Cocuzzi; mother, Kate R. Burke; sisters Ann Youngblood (John), Bonaire, and Ellen Crook (Gary), Centerville; grandchildren, Brianna Cocuzzi and Zachary and Jacob Antinelli; Estelle Smith, known as "Little Mother"; and special family friend, Jan Payoung.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 21, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Dave Courson and Reverend Sydney Odom officiating. Interment will follow in First Baptist Church of New Providence in Wilkinson County. Memorials may be given to Heartland Hospice, 115 Arkwright Landing, Macon GA 31210.
