It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Thomas Herndon, who left us peacefully on March 12, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Herndon was a Mason and a member of Strict Observance Lodge #18 in Forsyth, Georgia, for more than 50 years. He lived by the Masonic principles of brotherly love and truth, serving his community.
Mr. Herndon was born on June 2, 1940, in Forsyth, Georgia, to the late Myrtice and Cullen Herndon. After graduating from Mary Persons High School he began his career with the United States Postal Service where he served faithfully and ultimately retired in 1977. He married the love of his life, Joyce, in 1980 and began a career in real estate as a developer and builder until he retired.
Above all else, Mr. Herndon valued family. The love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was immeasurable. In his later years, his greatest joy was spending time with them and watching his family grow.
Mr. Herndon will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his loyalty to his Brothers and friends, his wonderful sense of humor, and the steady example he set through a life well lived.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Herndon was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Herndon, and granddaughter, Madaline Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Herndon, of 45 years; children, Lissa Suda (Paul) of Alpharetta, Michael Jones of Warner Robins, Chandler Jones (Cheryl) of Warner Robins, Terry Jones (Tracy) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Olivia Brookman (Jordan), Justin Suda, Ethan Suda, and Kayleigh Jones; and great-grandchildren, Orion Brookman, and Evangeline Brookman.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Mr. Herndon’s life will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, John Thomas Herndon will be laid to rest in the Forsyth City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be given in memory of John Thomas Herndon to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia, 1160 Forsyth St., Macon, Georgia 31201, or to Brightmoor Hospice, 115 Arkwright Landing, Macon, Georgia 31210.
