John Joseph "Jack" Cavanaugh, 79, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, July 25, 2016.
Born on December 7, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was of the Catholic faith. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed on the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVN-65). Fifteen months after beginning his military career, Mr. Cavanaugh made Shirley Kay Sweet his bride on April 13, 1958, and together, they had two children.
After settling in the middle Georgia area, Jack worked for Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base and retired in 1993. He owned and operated Cavanaugh's Heating and Air for many years. Mr. Cavanaugh enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially crazy about his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas L. and Mary M. Dugan Cavanaugh; and his brother, Thomas Cavanaugh.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Sweet Cavanaugh of Warner Robins; children, Patricia Birchenall (Peter) of Athens, Georgia; Sarah Seymore (Kenneth) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Kelly and Katie Seymore, and John Birchenall; great-granddaughter, Aubrie Sheppard; siblings, Charles Cavanaugh (Monica) of Virginia, Kenneth Cavanaugh of Warner Robins, and Cathleen Cavanaugh of Colorado; and a number of adoring nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28th in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the service, Mr. Cavanaugh will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
