John Alan Longo entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Born in Connecticut to Anna and Ralph Longo, John spent his life in Woodmont, Connecticut, where he created a lifetime of cherished memories by the beach with his closest friends, Kurt Horner, Steve Borer, and many others. He had a deep love for the ocean and often shared stories of boating adventures on Long Island Sound during his youth. John also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his beloved three-legged dog, Fanork.
A proud veteran, John served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge on September 21, 1970. Following his military service, John continued his life of service as an EMT with Chamberlain Ambulance before achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter. He served with bravery and distinction for 24 years, earning numerous commendations and the deep respect of his peers. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving brother, Edward Longo.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Sylvia; daughter, Julie (Bill) of Southington, Connecticut; granddaughter, Alexandria; great granddaughter, Aurora; stepson, Edward Henning, Jr. (Dixie); grandson, Edward Henning, III; great granddaughter, Elliot Grace Henning; brothers and sisters in law in Connecticut, Virginia and sister-in-law, Diane from Massachusetts.
He loved his family and friends and will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, sense of duty, and the warmth he brought to those around him.
The funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation being held one hour prior. Following the service, John will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
