Johnnie Mae Stephens, a woman of remarkable resilience, strength, and spirit, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Warner Robins, Georgia, at the age of 84.

Born on March 7, 1942, in Uvalda, Georgia, Johnnie Mae was the beloved daughter of the late Charlie New and Hannah Sharpe Coleman. She was raised in both Macon and Savannah, where she laid the foundation for a life defined by determination, independence, and quiet perseverance. She graduated from Montgomery County High School, in Mount Vernon, carrying with her a strong work ethic that would guide her throughout her life.

Johnnie Mae began her career at the Naval Ordnance Plant in Macon before continuing her service in civil service at Robins Air Force Base, where she worked in logistics. Her dedication and commitment led to a distinguished career spanning 20 years before her retirement. She took pride in her work and was known for her intelligence, reliability, and sharp mind.

A true lover of the outdoors, Johnnie Mae found joy and peace in nature. She had a deep passion for gardening, nurturing life with the same care and patience that she carried within herself. She was also an avid walker—rarely still, always moving. Residents and staff at The Phoenix at Lake Joy fondly remember seeing her outside each day, faithfully walking and enjoying the fresh air. Even in the months leading up to her passing, she remained active, a testament to her enduring strength and determination.

Johnnie Mae was known for her bright intellect, outgoing personality, and unwavering resilience. She faced life’s challenges with quiet courage and grace, never allowing hardship to define her. Instead, she continued forward—steadfast, independent, and grounded in her love for life and the world around her.

Her legacy is one of strength, perseverance, and a deep appreciation for the simple, beautiful moments found outdoors. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman who kept moving forward—literally and figuratively—no matter the circumstances.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Chuck Stephens.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her granddaughter, Grace Stephens (Marcus); and daughter-in-law, Deb Stephens.
