Johnny Durvis Williams, Jr., 70, passed away at Houston Medical Center on Monday, June 26, 2023.
Born on April 4, 1953, in Eastman, Georgia, Johnny was the son of the late Johnny Durvis Williams, Sr. and Betty Jo Williams. Johnny married the love of his life, formerly, Jeanne Lynn McMann, on June 30, 1973. He would always let her clown around and dress him up in silly clothes and hats. Family and friends were of the utmost importance to him and he would do anything for them. Johnny was especially proud of his daughter and son for being there for him and their mom. His children took great care of them even when it was difficult during his last few years. With an enterprising mindset, Johnny worked as a cold end mechanic at the Anchor Glass Container Corporation. He invented many devices during his 32-year career. Johnny could repair anything and loved classic cars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, RC model airplanes, and watching YouTube videos of how things worked. He also loved going to RC model airplane shows with his best friend, Ronnie. In his spare time, Johnny watched classic westerns, but his favorite shows were Gunsmoke and Star Trek. He was a kind, patient, gentle, quiet, and passionate man. Johnny was also a good listener and will be remembered as a cherished life friend to many.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his siblings, Rickey David Williams, and Kathy Ann Giddens; brother-in-law, I.G. Giddens; mother-in-law, Beverly Russ (Garfield); father-in-law, Gerald McMann Sr.; grandparents, Kate Allene Williams “Granny Grunt,” Ninnie Lee Patisaul, James Robert Williams, and James David Williams, Sr.; as well as his grand dog, “Callie.”
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 50 years, Jeanne Lynn (McMann) Williams; children, Jaime Nichole Williams and Jonathan Craig Williams; sister, Shirley Diane Reeves; sisters-in-law, Stella McSpadden (Tommy), Cindy Wright (Sammy), Tami Mix (Charlie); brothers-in-law, Gerald McMann, Jr. (Jolene), Brian Russ (Jenni); numerous nieces and nephews; as well as lifelong friend and brother, Ronnie Southerland (Betty); and grand dog, “Princess Leiapold Scotch.”
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Johnny Durvis Williams, Jr., to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
