Jonny came into this world on August 2, 2006 with a divine purpose to teach us all. Our patient teacher showed us how to find happiness in every moment with his bright smile that lit up any room and our lives.
Jonny was born with a major heart defect that severely affected his health. Complications from an infection he contracted in the hospital NICU led to major brain damage as well as a host of other complications from the infection.
Jonny was able to come home and live a normal as possible life with the love and care of his family. Jonny's conditions required twenty-four hour nursing care that is very hard to come by. This made it necessary for Holly, his mom, to take the lead in Jonny's care while raising his younger brother Carter, four daughters and being a military wife. Jonny's four teenage sisters, Jennifer, Courtney, Kayla and Heather were instrumental in Jonny's care, often putting aside typical teenage activities to make sure their brother had the best, most loving care available. His father, Jon, who is currently a Staff Sergeant serving our country in the US Air Force, would spend weekends contributing to Jonny's daily care. During this time, Jonny thrived beyond expectation and began to do things the doctors said would not be possible like smile and laugh. He laughed and loved through it all, renewing the faith and hope of those around him. Jonny had a contagious smile that lit up a room. Johnny's smile was his trademark. Jonny loved to be with his little brother Carter and would get very excited when he would hear Carter's voice.
Recently, Jonny was admitted for a general infection that just ran his little body down. His body just could not handle the strain.
On August 6, 2013 our earthbound angel received his reward and gained his heavenly wings at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, being held by his Mom and Dad and surrounded by family. Jonny is free to fly and, knowing Jonny, fly he will, spreading his love and everlasting spirit of a warrior in Heaven's elite army. Jonny fulfilled his purpose by leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met proving with his endless love, strong spirit and incredible joy, miracles are possible.
His passing was peaceful. The Graff family, although grief stricken and broken hearted, are grateful for the time Jonny was here lighting up their family and filling their hearts with his smile. Jonny will be dearly missed by his sisters, Jade and Jasmine, family and friends of the family that were lucky enough to see his amazing smile and have Jonny light up their world, if just for a minute.
Yet, we rejoice for him. The machines are no more, shackles and chains are broken! They take solace in the fact that Jonny is now a whole, energetic seven year old boy able to run, jump laugh and play in Heaven where he was received by his older brother Giovanni and the rest of his family. Jonny leaves with us a legacy of love and sheer joy that changed the lives of so many, allowing all of us to believe in miracles.
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'" Matthew 25:23.
