Joseph D. Green, Sr.

Joseph D. Green Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 80 years old.

Joseph was born on April 9, 1946, to the late Harry and Janette Green in Byron, Georgia. Following his graduation from A.R. Willingham High School, Joseph enlisted in the US Navy and served three tours in Vietnam aboard the destroyer USS Vesole. He would earn the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal (two bronze stars) in recognition of his esteemed service to his country.

Joseph spent time working for Keebler Cookie Co. and Borden Milk Co. before settling into a career with Bibb County, where he would diligently work until his retirement in 1996 after nearly three decades.

In his free time, Jospeh enjoyed hiking and reading. He was also known for being a train enthusiast. He loved his family and cherished every moment spent with them. Joseph leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will not soon be forgotten.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded by his sister, Elaine Joyner.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Dessie Lucile Green; his son, Joseph D. Green, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, and their children, Annalyn, Ella Kate, and Ava Green; and his son, Kenneth G. Green and his wife Ashley, and their daughter Gracelynn Lucile; and his sister, Sheriel Veader (Steve).

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Following visitation, the family will hold a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery, where Joseph will be laid to rest with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Joseph D. Green, Sr. to the American Heart Association at heart.org or Brightmoor Hospice at 115 Arkwright Landing, Macon, GA 31210.
