Joseph "Joey" Dave Wells

October 17, 1952 — December 1, 2025

Cantonment

Today, we gather with heavy hearts, but also with so much love, to honor a man whose presence changed our lives. Born in Macon, Georgia to Virginia and Henry Wells, he came into this world with a spirit that was bright, warm, and full of life. And that spirit—his joy, his laughter, his kindness—never dimmed. Not once.

For 45 years, Joey walked hand in hand with the love of his life, Patsy. Their marriage was more than a union—it was a partnership built on trust, strength, and an unwavering devotion. Together, they raised three beautiful children—Ray, Carmen, and Faith—and from the moment each of them came into this world, they became the center of his heart. His family was everything to him, and he showed it every single day.

Joey found happiness in the things that made him feel free—drag racing, shooting pool, fishing, and his deep love for motorcycles. These weren’t just hobbies; they were pieces of his soul, moments where he felt alive and connected to the world around him. And if you were lucky enough to share those moments with him, you know how his eyes lit up, how his smile widened, how his excitement could fill the whole day.

But what truly made Joey extraordinary, what made him irreplaceable, was who he was on the inside.

He was an unforgettable, genuine man—steady, loyal, full of heart, and full of love. He had a rare gift: the ability to make people laugh no matter how heavy their burdens were. His jokes, his pranks, that mischievous grin—he could lift a room in an instant. And he didn’t just make people laugh, he made them feel loved, welcomed, and understood. Being around Joey felt like being home.

Joey didn’t just leave memories—he left pieces of himself in all of us. Every laugh we share because of him, every story we pass down, every moment of kindness we show in his honor… those are the threads of his legacy, woven into our lives forever.

We hurt because we loved him so deeply. But even through the pain, there is something beautiful he gave us: a lifetime of moments we can hold close, moments we can revisit when the world feels heavy. And when we think of him—his laugh, his smile, his love—the sadness softens just a little, replaced by warmth, by gratitude, by the simple joy of having had him in our lives.

He was loved by many, and he will be missed beyond words. But his spirit is not gone. It lives in every heart he touched, every life he brightened, every memory he left behind.

Today, we honor him.

Today, we thank him.

And today, we promise to carry his love forward—because a man like Joey doesn’t leave this world quietly. His love stays. His laughter stays. His light stays.

Forever unforgettable. Forever genuine. Forever loved.
