Joseph Edwin Trussell, 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2024.
Joe was born on January 15, 1954, in Macon, Georgia. A man with a quiet and consistently calm demeanor, his family was of the utmost importance to Joe. He married his high school sweetheart, Lara, with whom he spent a wonderful 47 years of marriage. He was always involved in his daughters’ lives, always coaching their softball teams and never missing any type of event. He would carry this involvement and fierce love into the lives of his grandchildren, being the kind of Papa who loved playing kickball, fighting Nerf wars, and playing hide and seek with them. Joe also enjoyed traveling and took multiple cross-country trips with his family. He dearly loved the University of Georgia Bulldogs and had a special sweet tooth, especially for chocolate covered cherries at Christmastime. He will be deeply missed by his sweet family and his friends who knew him best.
His parents, Grady Rufus Trussell and Mozelle Smith Bryan, and his half-brother, Danny Mays preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Lara Nix Trussell; daughters, Amber Cleghorn (Jim) of Kathleen, Georgia, Kristin Lester (Jordan) of Hubert, North Carolina, and Meredith Lynch (Chris) of Perry, Georgia; grandchildren, Parker and Anna Cleghorn and Elias and Harper Lester; siblings, John Trussell (Billie), Grady R. Trussell, Jr. (Carol), and Peggy Lobertini (Mike) along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Second Baptist Church with his brother-in-law, the Reverend Bobby Nix officiating. Afterward, Joe will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
