Joyce Greer Burgess, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Mrs. Burgess was born on July 11, 1943, in Jay, Florida, to the late Kermit and Elberta Miller Greer.
In 1961, Joyce proudly graduated from Auburndale High School, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her life. On July 1, 1961, she married the love of her life, Jesse “Danny” Burgess, in Auburndale, FL. Together, Joyce and Danny embarked on a beautiful journey filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories. Their greatest blessings were their two daughters, Latricia and Cheree, whom they welcomed into their loving family and cherished beyond measure.
Joyce and Danny were called into the ministry and devoted their lives to serving the Lord and others for over 28 years. Their ministry took them to churches throughout Florida and Tennessee. Joyce continued her education at Tomlinson College in Cleveland, TN where she earned a degree in Theology, graduating with honors and becoming a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Eventually, Joyce and Danny retired to Warner Robins, Georgia.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Joyce was a devoted member of Harvest Christian Fellowship church. She remained active in ministry through, teaching, singing and various other roles. She loved serving others and worshiping her Lord. Her faith was evident in the way she lived her life.
Joyce also shared her beautiful voice at the Powersville Opera House Music place. She shared gospel, country and bluegrass throughout the community. She brought joy to nursing homes, churches, senior centers, and other local events, as a member of The Country Crossing Band
and The Rain Band. Her musical contributions earned her nominations for the Powersville Opera Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame in 2018. She also served on the Powersville Board of Directors.
Joyce leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, love, and service. Her beautiful voice may now be silent here on earth, but the melodies she shared, the lives she touched, and the love she gave will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jesse “Danny” Burgess; her parents, Kermit and Elberta Greer; her sister, Myra Jones; her nephew, Derrick Parrish; and several beloved members of the Greer and Burgess families.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughters, Latricia Pope (Kelly) and Cheree Burgess (Rick); her grandchildren, Kelly Pope III, Kaitlyn Pope, and Kasen Schuetz; her sister, Bobbie Elmore; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
The funeral service celebrating Mrs. Burgess’ life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, with Pastor Kelly Pope and Pastor Gerald Green officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Following the service, Mrs. Burgess will be laid to rest in Perry Memorial Gardens.
