Bonaire

Kenneth "Champ" Aldredge passed away peacefully at his residence in Bonaire on the morning of Sunday, February 26, 2024. He was 90 years old.

Champ was born on June 12, 1933, in Cairo, Georgia, the son of the late William Glenn and Edna Long Aldredge. After completing high school, Champ proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, stationed on the aircraft carriers "The Essex" and "The Oriskany." Following his military service, he joined Ford Motor Company, where he worked diligently for over three decades until his retirement, achieving the title of superintendent.

A man of faith, Champ was a devoted member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church for 21 years. He served as Chairman of The Elders for three years, was a past member of the elder board, and dedicated over 15 years as an usher. Additionally, Champ opened his home to host the Christ-Care Group for 18 years, providing a place of fellowship and support for many.

Champ had a passion for the outdoors, finding joy in hunting and fishing. He also loved to garden and cultivate tomatoes. He was a loyal fan of Georgia Tech, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta Braves, always eager to cheer them on. As part of the Alzheimer's Support Group, Champ did many walks to raise funds and awareness of Alzheimer's disease.

Champ was cherished by his family, especially his grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as "Paw-Paw." His kindness, wisdom, and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his first wife and mother to his children, Ouida Mae Aldredge; and as well as four siblings.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 22 years, Patricia Aldredge of Bonaire; children, Dawn Tilson (Michael) of McDonough, and William Glenn Aldredge (Debbie) of Cordele; stepdaughter, Gayla Lynn Ryan; grandchildren, Jenna Suderman (Brandon) of Stockbridge, Zach Aldredge (Maggy) of Canton, Kristen Tilson of Griffin, Kenneth “Drake” Aldredge (Elizabeth) of Atlanta; great-granddaughters, Isla Aldredge and one on the way; as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and beloved friends.

A memorial gathering will be Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.  A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Champ will be laid to rest privately at Bernhardt Cemetery in Ellijay.
