Lisa Curry-Brookshire, 64, entered into eternal rest on June 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her devoted family.
Born on September 23, 1961, in Dublin, Georgia, Lisa was the beloved daughter of the late John and Barbara Ann Curry. She spent her childhood in Dublin before moving to Savannah as a teenager, a city she would always consider home. She attended Sol C. Johnson High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships before beginning the next chapter of her life.
After high school, Lisa relocated to Orlando, Florida, where fate introduced her to the love of her life, Bruce Brookshire. Their love story was one built on unwavering devotion, shared adventures, and a deep commitment to one another. As Bruce pursued his passion for music with the Southern rock band Doc Holliday, Lisa stood faithfully by his side, traveling with the band throughout their "Rock and Ride" years and offering steadfast encouragement every step of the way. The couple was married on March 14, 1990, in Warner Robins, Georgia, and together they continued to embrace the adventures that life and music brought their way.
Throughout her life, Lisa built a career marked by dedication, hard work, and genuine care for others. Early in her career, she worked for Cable Vision in Raleigh, North Carolina. After moving to Warner Robins in 1985, Lisa embraced every opportunity that came her way, working a variety of jobs throughout the community. She tended bar at Smokes in the old Houston Mall, welcomed guests as a hostess at The Cove Restaurant on Corder Road, worked as a cashier at the former Family Mart, and held several other positions along the way. No matter where she worked, Lisa's warm personality and friendly smile left a lasting impression on those she met.
In 1987, Lisa was proudly among the original employees when Applebee's opened in Warner Robins, where she remained a valued member of the team for many years. She later served as a customer service representative with Cox Cable before becoming the familiar face in the drive-thru at Wachovia Bank on Russell Parkway. As the bank's chief drive-thru teller, Lisa built lasting friendships with countless customers, many of whom looked forward to seeing her each day. She eventually joined Houston Medical Center, where she worked as a scheduler and bookkeeper, always bringing compassion, kindness, and a servant's heart to those she helped.
One of the greatest passions of Lisa's life was her faith. Alongside Bruce, she helped establish Grace Fellowship around Easter of 2005. She became an integral part of the church family, joyfully serving in numerous ministries and directing the outreach program. With a heart that naturally gravitated toward those in need, Lisa tirelessly organized food drives, gathered clothing and essential items, and worked to ensure that struggling families experienced the love of Christ through acts of generosity. She faithfully served her church and community until declining health made it no longer possible.
Lisa was known for her feisty spirit, loving heart, and unwavering loyalty. She loved deeply and gave selflessly, always placing the needs of her family and friends before her own. Those who knew her appreciated her caring nature, compassionate heart, and willingness to stand beside the people she loved through every season of life.
She also found great joy in life's simple pleasures. Lisa adored her beloved dogs, Schnitzel and Rowf, who were cherished members of the family. She was an enthusiastic Atlanta Braves fan and treasured the opportunity to meet Braves legend Sid Bream, whose strong Christian faith and outreach ministry left a lasting impression on her. Whether cheering on the Braves, serving others through her church, or simply spending time with those she loved most, Lisa embraced life with enthusiasm and a heart full of gratitude.
Above all else, Lisa's greatest joy was her family. She loved them fiercely and faithfully, finding her greatest purpose in caring for those she held dear. Her unwavering love, generous spirit, and steadfast faith leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving husband, Bruce Brookshire; step-daughter, Rachel Brookshire Gibbons (Shallar); grandchildren, Jacob Woodard, Ava Gibbons, and Asher Gibbons; sister, Kathy Wilson; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Shurett and Cathy Brookshire; brothers-in-law, Robert Brookshire, Ronnie Wilson and William Shurett; niece, Kim Barnes (Brad); and great niece, Ellie Barnes.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Lisa will be laid to rest privately in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
