Lizzie Mae Flowers

July 31, 1934 — September 27, 2025

Bonaire

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ms. Lizzie Mae Flowers, a beacon of light, love, and vibrant color, who entered eternal rest on September 27, 2025, in Warner Robins, Georgia, at the age of 91.

Lizzie Mae was born on July 31, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama, to her beloved parents, the late John and Queenie Mae Streety. It was in Montgomery that she received her education and blossomed into the remarkable woman we all knew and loved. A proud and loving mother, she was blessed with two children of her own but served as a nurturing matriarch to countless others who affectionately called her "Madear."

In 1960, Lizzie met and married the late Louis Flowers. Soon after their union, she relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, a city she would call home for more than sixty years. Lizzie was a true fashionista, known for her love of colorful clothing that perfectly matched her dazzling and genuine personality. She was the life of every family gathering, always ready to dance, and was a serious card player who enjoyed the thrill of the game. She found quiet joy in traveling and in her favorite pastime, watching her soap operas. To know her was truly to love her; she was a genuine soul whose warmth was felt by all.

She is welcomed into the hereafter by her parents, John and Queenie Mae; her brothers, Booker T. Wallace, Jimmy L. Williams, John Streety, and Willie James Streety; and her sister, Carrie Mae Pettiway.

Her legacy of love and laughter will be cherished and carried on by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her devoted children: a daughter, Annie B. Davenport of Bonaire, GA, and a son, Hamin Shabazz (Joanne) of Toledo, OH. She also leaves one brother, Sammy L. Streety of Cincinnati, OH.

Her memory will be a guiding star for her grandchildren: Norris D. Hughes (Toni) of Snellville, GA; Eli D. Hughes of Hiram, GA; Bryan K. Davenport of Okinawa, Japan; and A'isha & Haminah Shabazz (Jon) of Toledo, OH. She was the proud great-grandmother of nine great-granddaughters: Whitney Glaze (Ty'Quan), Eliya, Ashlee, and Kyli Hughes, Isabelle Davenport, Aveaya, A-Vonni, Aaliyah Galloway-Watson, and Ayla Shabazz; and two great-grandsons: Cameron Hughes and Jackson Runles.

Lizzie also leaves to mourn her passing a host of loving nieces and nephews, including her cherished nephew, Timothy Pettiway, with whom she shared daily conversations filled with laughter and guidance. Her memory will be held dear by three special friends, Bettye Jemison, Delores Smith, and Frances Mitchell, who shared in the beautiful tapestry of her life.

Ms. Lizzie Mae Flowers will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit, a vibrant and beautiful force, will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
