Lora Dean Rook, 77, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Lora was born on April 2, 1949, in Dumas, Arkansas, to the late Aubrey and Louisa Chesney Rook. Born a twin, she began her life in Arkansas before her journey eventually took her to California and later to Georgia, where she made her home.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Lora worked for the Houston County Board of Education in the school cafeteria. She genuinely enjoyed her work, but it was the students who made her days especially meaningful. Her friendly nature made it easy for her to connect with those around her, and she enjoyed being a familiar and welcoming face at school.

Lora was truly a social butterfly who never passed up an opportunity for a good conversation. She loved to chit-chat, visit with others, and simply enjoy the company of those around her. Her outgoing personality and love for people made strangers feel like friends and ensured there was rarely a dull moment when Lora was nearby.

When she wasn't visiting with friends or family, Lora could often be found enjoying some of her favorite things. She had a love for plants and gardening and took pleasure in watching the things she cared for grow and flourish. She also loved dancing and had a special place in her heart for animals, particularly her beloved cats and dogs.

Throughout her life, Lora was known for her strong work ethic and determination. Whether she was working, tending to her plants, caring for her animals, or catching up with someone over a good conversation, she approached life with energy and a spirit all her own. She will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

As we remember our mother, we hold on to the promise that her tears are wiped away and she rest in peace. Today our hearts grieve, but we trust that her suffering has ended and her love stays with us.

In addition to her parents, Lora was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and daughter-in-law, Tracy.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Gary Cossette (Tracey), Pam Garrish (Mitchell), and Sherry McAtee (Randall); nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 12: 30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, a graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
