Lt. Col. Ronald Lee Butts, USAF (Ret.), 74, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
Ronald was born on December 17, 1949, in Milledgeville, Georgia to the late Virginia Butts Glidewell and Robert L. Butts, Jr. He entered officer training school in 1975 with the United States Air Force and would serve until 2003, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his time in the military, he continued furthering his education, earning his master’s degree in management and human relations via Webster University. He was stationed at a variety of interesting places including Texas, California, Florida, Spain, Iceland, Washington DC, Hawaii, Alabama, Japan, and his home state of Georgia.
Outside of the military, Ronald had a rich personal life. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge F & A.M., and Al Sihah Shriners. Faith was also a great part of Ronald’s life where he was a faithful member of Glenwood Hills Baptist Church. In his free time, he enjoyed cars, photography, and grilling. He will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Butts and father-in-law, Thomas Stuart.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Merrial Butts, son, Stuart Butts, mother-in-law, Jackie Stuart, and sister-in-law, Nancy Baggett (Warren), and grand-dog, Pickles.
A memorial gathering will be Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.
