Maela Reine passed away on September 22, 2026 at the age of 4 months old, surrounded by her family.

Maela’s life may have been short, but the love she brought into this world was immeasurable. Her beautiful blue eyes, tiniest little nose, and sweetest smile could bring comfort to anyone around her, and her calm, playful spirit made her so easy to love. She showed more strength and resilience in her four months than many do in a lifetime, touching countless hearts along the way. Though we wish we could have had so much more time with her, there is comfort in knowing that her beautiful soul is now shining brighter than ever in Heaven, surrounded by God and the loved ones who welcomed her home. Maela will forever be remembered for the love she gave, the strength she showed, and the beautiful light she left behind in all of us.

Maela is survived by her father and mother, Clayton and Bridget Hortman; her sister, Saphyra Thompson, her paternal grandparents, Rodney and Tammy Hortman; her maternal grandparents, Kyile and Diana Wages; her maternal uncles, Russell and (Tayler) Dunn and Tony Wages; her paternal Aunt, Rachel and (Joel) Berrier; along with many more uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 @ 2:30 p.m. at Macon Evangelistic Church. Maela will then be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Roberta City Cemetery.
