Major Glenn T. Lowery, Sr., Usaf (Ret.)

Major Glenn Townsend Lowery, Sr., USAF (Ret.) passed away peacefully on July 5th, 2023, in Athens, Georgia.


Glenn was born on July 4th, 1931, in Marion, AL, and was the only son to Susie Mae Townsend and Newton Gresham Lowery.


Glenn graduated from Perry County High School and went on to graduate from Marion Military School and The Citadel, Military College in Charleston in 1954.


In September of 1954, Glenn entered into the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and later attained the title of Major and the rating of Command Pilot. He served in Viet Nam War in 1965 flying combat support missions, and later retired USAF in 1974 while stationed in Warner Robins, Georgia.


During his service, he received the following medals:

Bronze Star, Air Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Small Arms Marksmanship Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.


Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Lowery (Jones) of Sylvester, Georgia; They were married in 1955 and went on to have five children before her passing in 1990.


Glenn is survived in death by his children: Glenn Townsend Lowery, Jr. of Athens, GA, Linda Lowery (daughter in- law) of Athens, GA, Chad (Beth) Jones Lowery of Athens, GA, Gene (Jana) Vincent Lowery of Athens, GA, Denise Lowery of Lima, Peru, and Margaret Sue Lowery of Byron, GA; Grandchildren: Luke Theron Lowery, Peyton Elizabeth Lowery, Tristan Jones Lowery, Devan Nicole (Brooks) Daniel, Alyssa Michelle Krause, Zachary (Jordan) Scott Lester, and Joshua (Amelia) Nathan Lester; Great-Grandchildren: Beau Vincent Daniel.


In Lieu of flowers, Glenn would like donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate/ or St Jude Children’s Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/.


A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterword, Glenn will be laid to rest by his wife, Mary Ann, in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
