Kathleen

Margaret Ann Childs, 85, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Margaret was born on September 12, 1940, in Donalsonville, Georgia, to the late John Walden Williams and Essie Lee Robinson Williams. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she found her greatest joy in her family. She especially enjoyed being with family and when she couldn’t be with them, she enjoyed being able to look through pictures and videos of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret loved the Lord with all her heart and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She cherished the company of others and treasured every moment spent with family and friends, creating memories that will last forever.

With a true green thumb, she found peace and joy in yard work and tending to her flowers. She also delighted in cooking, canning, and the simple pleasures of everyday life especially her collection of chickens. Margaret enjoyed her years working at J.C. Penney in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and at her brother’s hardware store in Bonaire, Georgia, where she built friendships and shared her warm spirit with those around her.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, James Raymond Childs, granddaughter, Melissa Ann Lynn Felton, sister, Emily Jane Chambers Boyd and her first husband, Charles C. McAteer, Jr.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughter, Wendy Gail Lynn (Brad) of Lanett, Alabama; grandchildren, William Bradford Lynn of Lanett, Alabama and Sarah Lynn Hammond (Logan) of Opelika, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Jack Fisher Hammond, Samuel Charles Hammond, Ford Logan Hammond, Andrew William Hammond, Henry Robert Hammond, and Cavan Bradford Felton; Step-Children Buddy Childs (Nancy) of Euharlee, Georgia and Jill Smith (Reggie) of Pineview, Georgia; her brothers James Harvey Williams of Perry, Georgia and Tom Williams (Janie) of Bonaire, Georgia along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Glen Bridges, Eddie Causey, William Lynn, Waymond “Jr.” Odom, Bobby Stalnaker, and Austin Underhill.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Margaret will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
