Margaret Monroe, 90, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Margaret was born on December 19, 1935, in Silk Hope, Georgia, to the late Redden and Dora Kicklighter. She went on to marry her beloved husband of 67 years, George Joseph Monroe, with whom she dedicated herself to raising and caring for their children. Over the years, Margaret worked hard to maintain her reputation as the best mother in the world, a title she held in the eyes of her family for her entire life.

Margaret loved to sing. She was always performing for weddings and other special events – she counted these opportunities as a great joy. Margaret also deeply loved the Lord. She devoured scripture and was a self-trained Biblical scholar. Margaret used her gifts to encourage others, becoming a beloved source of encouragement to all who knew her.

Above all, Margaret adored her family. She loved all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with a gentleness and joy that was hard to match. Her legacy of encouragement, faith, and love serve as a comfort in these difficult times.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, George Joseph Monroe, and her daughter, Danielle Miller.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Debra Monroe, Deena Skates (Dick), and Donna Tomkins (Mitch); her son-in-law, Rob Miller; her grandchildren, Grey Skates (Slone), Jessica, Ryan Tomkins (Carrie), Holland Tomkins, and Haley; her three great-grandchildren; her brother, Dean Kicklighter; and a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. in McCullough Funeral Home’s Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be given in memory of Margaret to the mission field for the furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
