Margaret Jane (Sammons) Watson, a beloved mother and devoted military spouse, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100. Her century of life was defined by intelligence, grace, resilience, and an unwavering love for her family.

Born May 17, 1926, in the scenic mountain town of Lakemont, Georgia, Margaret (known to her family and friends as Marge) was the daughter of the late Thaddeus Edward Sammons, Sr. and Helen Virginia (Williams) Sammons. She grew up with a sharp mind and natural leadership abilities, qualities that shone brightly during her youth in South Carolina. Marge graduated from Taylors High School in Taylors, S.C., where she served as both Senior Class President and Valedictorian—achievements that reflected her lifelong dedication to excellence and learning.

Following her graduation at the height of World War II, Marge continued her education at Business College in Greenville, South Carolina. She went on to work for several years as a highly capable administrative assistant and office manager.

Her life took a beautiful and adventurous turn when she met a young Air Force Officer in pilot training. The connection was immediate, and on December 7, 1956, Marge and Sam Watson were united in marriage. They began their journey together with a civil ceremony at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, followed by a formal wedding ceremony the next day at Tachikawa Air Base, Japan.

With her marriage, Marge graciously embraced the role of a military spouse and mother. Their first assignment together took them to Taipei, Taiwan. This was the beginning of a life defined by frequent relocations, deployments, and the unique challenges and triumphs of military life. Through every transition, Marge was the anchor of the family, selflessly taking on the vast responsibilities of managing family life with wisdom and humor, while creating a warm, stable, and loving home for her children, no matter where in the world they were stationed.

Marge’s legacy of service and dedication lives on through her family. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lt Col (Ret) Rebecca Jane Watson, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was reunited in eternity with her beloved husband of many years, Lt Col (Ret) Raymond S. “Sam” Watson; her cherished son, LCDR (Ret) Randall Edward Watson; her mother and father, her two brothers, Thaddeus E. Sammons, Jr. and Charles W. Sammons; and her sister, Elizabeth Speir (Sammons) Funk.

Marge will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Sam, and alongside her son, Randy.

Marge Watson's warmth, strength, and elegant spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the honor of knowing and loving her.
