Margie Lee Johnson

March 22, 1939 — March 4, 2023

Margie Lee Johnson, 83, went home to Jesus on Saturday, March 4, 2023.


Margie was born on March 22, 1939, in Rochelle, Georgia to the late Charles and Thelma Fitzgerald. Margie was a devoted Christian who loved God with all her heart. She loved devotions and Pastor David Jeremiah. The Bible and her Savior were both an important staple in her life. She also spent many years working in the nursery at Central Baptist Church. Margie had a love of taking care of children and the elderly throughout her life. She enjoyed sewing and made various things from children’s clothing to blankets and quilts. During her life, she also wrote a wonderful book called “Unexpected Twist and Turns”.


In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Fitzgerald and granddaughter, Tara Youngblood.


Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Tommy Jones (Alma) of Mt Airy, North Carolina and Wanda Spires (Pete), Fort Valley, Georgia; grandchildren, Jonathon Jones (Emily), Timmy Youngblood (Candace), Paul Jones (Lindsey), and Stephen Jones (Allison); siblings, Charles Fitzgerald, Ann Wade, Elsie Clements (Ronnie), Ronnie Fitzgerald (Wanda Gail), Donnie Fitzgerald (Cheryl), Sandra Driver (Stan), and Brenda Spires (Larry); her best friend, Cathy Newman; along with 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.


Visitation will be Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Margie will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery besides her husband of many years, George Jones.


In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Margie Johnson to Pine Pointe Hospice at 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
