Margie Mcdowell

July 27, 1929 — October 28, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margie McDowell. She went to be with the Lord on the evening of Friday, October 28, 2022 at the age of 93.

Margie was born in Jackson, GA on July 27, 1929, the daughter of the late Ira and Ina Cawthon. For years, she was the proud owner and operator of the esteemed Master Cleaners in Warner Robins, the business she started in the ‘50s with her first husband and children’s father, Buford Claude Rushing. Margie was a sweet, selfless, independent woman, an exceptionally hard worker, and an even better boss as she was always kind to her employees. What’s more is that she was simply THE BEST mother who never hesitated to put her family first. Margie genuinely wanted everyone in her life to be happy, whether they be family, friends or employees.

In her free time, Margie loved to be outside and to walk; she walked for miles every day. She also enjoyed spending her days fishing with Buford before he passed away. Margie married her second husband, “Mac” in 1999 and enjoyed traveling with him, especially to National Parks. He passed away in 2018. Margie was a staple at First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins where she was a longtime, faithful member. There, she enjoyed volunteering with its Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen, along with other charity work. When Margie wasn’t working, volunteering or traveling, you could find her cheering on the Atlanta Braves. The legacy of Margie’s kind heart and unconditional love for all people will continue to bless generations to come. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Buford Claude Rushing, she was preceded in death by her second husband, D.C. “Mac” McDowell; and her son, Alan Rushing.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Susan Carpenter (David) of Elko and Bob Rushing (Susan) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Brad Carpenter (Megan), Amanda Carpenter Kay (Jacob), Whitney Socarras (Keith), Holli Figueroa, Kit Jordan (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Hayden Socarras, Anna Kate Carpenter, Lee Ann Carpenter, Gabi Figueroa, Jordan Figueroa and Holden Socarras; and brother, Horace Cawthon (Becky) of Jackson.

Margie’s family will receive friends at McCullough Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Josh Bizzell  officiating. Margie will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery following the service.
