Marjorie Bee Liaguno, 82, a beloved wife, mother, English teacher, and community leader, passed away at the Houston Medical Center on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
Born in Decatur, Illinois, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Harold and Lois Boggs Conley. She was a woman of intellect and achievement, earning her master’s degree. But her true legacy lay not in her academic pursuits, but in her commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those around her.
Instrumental and supportive of her husband’s military career, she constantly went above and beyond. Marjorie formed several wives’ clubs and visited her husband's troops. On Christmas Eve and New Years, she helped set up decorations and provide his troops with meals and treats, bringing a touch of home to those far away from their families. Marjorie was also a dedicated member of the Red Hat Society, Byron Lions Club, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (Macon and Warner Robins chapters).
Her passion for history was evident in her role as the former President of the Historical Society in Byron. She was in the midst of renovating and converting the old post office in Byron into a museum, where she hoped to help children understand their roots, and interact with history by trying on uniforms, playing with period toys, and experiencing other items from different time periods of the past, fostering an understanding of American history in the younger generation. Marjorie was instrumental in raising money through fundraisers to foster growth and understanding of history.
Marjorie was a true community pillar, known for her kindness and generosity. She hosted parties for military families, smoked cigars, was the owner and operator of the Green Frog Coffee Shop in Byron and owned several antique shops. She also opened her home to help raise children, embracing Destin and Crystal Lance, daughters of her heart, Annette, Denise, and Erin, and granddaughter of her heart Jennifer, as her own and imparting her wisdom and love upon them.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished by her husband, David Rico Liaguno; children, Anthony Shawn Liaguno (Sara) of Buford, Georgia, and Lance Christopher Liaguno of Portland, Oregon; grandson, David Frances Liaguno (Brandy) of Madison, Wisconsin; great-granddaughter, Juniper Francis-Clower Liaguno; sisters, Yvonne Cresap (Terry) of Atlanta; and Susan Morr (Alan) of Decatur, Illinois; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
