Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Mary Ann Pickard, passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, December 24, 2022, at the age of 81. She is gone but will never be forgotten.
Mary Ann was born in Hull, GA on May 30, 1941 to the late James C. and Lillian Smith Sorrow. She graduated with Warner Robins High School’s Class of ’59 and married her husband, David, the very next year. David and Mary Ann soon started a family and made a wonderfully happy home for their three children to grow up in.
Driven by her love of community and serving others from the time she was young, Mary Ann worked at Robins Air Force Base for several years before working for the Houston County Board of Education as lunchroom manager at Elberta Elementary School. Following her time in school nutrition, she enjoyed serving as the manager/director for the City of Warner Robins’ Ceramic Department until her retirement.
When Mary Ann wasn’t busy at work, you would more than likely find her out and about. She loved to garden and was an avid golfer for almost 60 years. Mary Ann also enjoyed taking annual fishing trips to Alaska. Additionally, she had a soft spot in her heart for Meals on Wheels of Houston County and was a big supporter of theirs. Mary Ann’s love for family, her giving heart, and her wonderful sense of humor, will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, O’Dennis Sorrow and James C. Sorrow, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, John L. Taylor and William B. Payne.
Those left to cherish Mary Ann’s memory are her husband of 62 years and love of her life, James David Pickard, Jr. of Warner Robins; daughters, Katherine Pfohl (Frank) and Cynthia Rivenbark (Mark), both of Warner Robins and Carol Lewis (Greg) of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Caroline Peake (John) of Nashville, TN, Daniel Rivenbark of Dallas, TX, Margaret Pfohl of Missoula, MT and Elizabeth Rivenbark of Warner Robins; sisters, Shirley Taylor and Peggy Payne; sister-in-law, Millie Sorrow; and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 31, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Mary Ann will then be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery in a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Mary Ann Pickard to the Alzheimer’s Association, 886 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31201 or to Meals on Wheels of Houston County, P.O. Box 118, Warner Robins, GA 31099.
