Mary Elizabeth Fairchild, 81, entered into rest on the morning of September 19, 2025.
Born on August 7, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia, Mary was the daughter of the late William and Mary Evelyn Payne Bird. She was raised in Warner Robins, where she attended Warner Robins High School.
As a young woman, Mary got married and started a family. She then began her career at Robins Air Force Base, where she worked in a box factory crafting crates. Later, Mary founded and operated her own business, Fairchild Painting Company, which she successfully ran for many years until her retirement in 2015.
Mary had a deep love for nature and simple pleasures. She took great pride in tending to her yard and especially her 25 rose bushes that she meticulously cared for. She loved having her hands in the dirt. Mary also found joy in fishing, bird watching, and watching westerns, with Gunsmoke being a favorite.
Above all, Mary treasured her family. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was known for her strength, determination, and her strong will.
Mary’s legacy is one of fierce independence, deep love for her family, and a life fully and authentically lived. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ewer.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Patricia Thompkins of Warner Robins; Neal Fairchild (Tammy) of Fort Valley, Tina Fairchild of Perry, John Fairchild (Jan Peters) of Stockbridge, and Ruby Irvine (Tony) of McDonough; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
