Mary Magdalene Gainous, 89, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, at her residence in Byron. Born on March 29, 1934, Mary was the daughter of the late Royce Bernard McDaniel and Amy Whiddon Vanburnt.

Mary worked as an electrical technician at the Gyro Shop on Robins Air Force Base. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking for them (everyone will miss her delicious meals!) In her spare time, she crocheted and was an avid reader. For over four decades, Mary taught Sunday School and for 25 years was an Auxiliary Volunteer at the Houston County Hospital. She also took delight in watching her roses grow as she tended to them each year.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lenwood “Dick” Gainous, siblings, R.B. McDaniel and Margaret Sculley, as well as son-in-law, Jerry Brewer.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Lynn Masse (David) and Tony Gainous (Paula), all of Warner Robins, and Steve Gainous (Linda) of Hanahan, South Carolina; grandchildren, Melanie Graber (John), Jennifer Humphries, Leslie Carroll (Richard), Scott Gainous, Trent Gainous, Hali Roddy (Blake), Eric Gainous, Amber Piwonski (Yosh), Timothy Gainous, Fran Farber, Michael Masse, Ryan Masse (Laura), Chasity Gurr (Danny); 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Marvin McDaniel (Becky) of South Carolina, Randy McDaniel (Karen) of Florida, and Helen Poitevint of South Carolina.

Visitation will be Monday, March 25, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Bonaire First Baptist Church.  A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m.  Afterward, Mary Magdalene Gainous will be laid to rest in Bonaire Cemetery.
