Mary L.
Matthews
Jan 13, 1952 — Oct 19, 2026
Bonaire, GA
Mary. L. Matthews, age 74, of Bonaire, GA left this life surrounded by loved ones on October 19, 2026. She was born and raised in Nashville, TN, where she attended Cohn High School. She obtained her GED and worked in various roles in logistics with her longest tenure as a Claims Manager for Genesco Inc. for over 35 years.
Throughout her life Mary kept herself busy with cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide but even more so with her support and fanatic love of the Dallas Cowboys, especially whenever Troy Aikman was involved. She even earned the moniker “Blue Granny” by one of her grandchildren because she was usually wearing a Dallas t-shirt. Outside of her beloved Cowboys, her true devotion was to her family. After her mother passed in 1989, Mary became the mother and grandmother figure for so many. Her devotion was unmatched as she served as a caretaker for extended family and more. Her loss will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is proceeded in death by her parents, George Earl Matthews and B. Elease Robertson-Matthews as well as granddaughter Abriel Pritchard. She is survived by her two sons, David Harris of Portland, OR, and Jeffrey Harris of Nashville, TN as well as siblings W. Earl Matthews (Nancy) of Memphis, TN, sister Connie Potter (Robert) of Smyrna, TN and George E. Matthews of Murfreesboro, TN. Additionally, Mary was the very proud Nana to Erin Matthews, and doting grandmother to Andrew Harris (Vanessa), Tori Standard (Alex), Coby Harris, Echoe Wooten (Cody), Benjamin and Maximus Harris. She was a loving great-grandmother to Lilly and Phoenix Standard, as well as to Autumn, Blu, Chakra, Dance, Enchanted, and Freyja Wooten along with a host of adored nieces/great-nieces and nephews/great-nephews as well as numerous other family members.
Celebration of Life will be planned for springtime with dates to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Gene and Jerry Jones foundation or a charity of your choice in remembrance of her.
