Mary P. Hood

Mary Leona Poteat Hood, 79, was called to Heaven by God on Friday April 20, 2012 to be with the Angels. She passed peacefully with her family by her side.

Mrs. Hood was born on March 5, 1933 in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Mary loved her family and her church family at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. She loved the Georgia Bulldogs. Mary graduated from high school in Gastonia, North Carolina and then graduated from Gaston Memorial School of Nursing in 1956. Mary became a Registered Nurse and worked in hospitals in Charlotte, North Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina; and Warner Robins, Georgia as an operating room nurse. Her parents, John Henry Poteat and Flora Rollins-Poteat; and brother Glen Poteat preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years Riley M. Hood, Bonaire; children, John Riley Hood (Barbara) Bonaire, Karen Lynn Compton (Jim) Weaverville, North Carolina; sister, Gladys Walker, Danville, Virginia; one grandchild, Jason Riley Hood (Staci) Athens, Georgia and one great grandchild, Piper; and various nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church with entombment following in Parkway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Pastor David Brighton will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given to the American Cancer Society 804 Cherry Street Macon, Georgia 31201 or to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Building Fund 336 Carl Vinson Parkway Warner Robins, GA 31088
