Mason Robert Wimer, 16, of Kathleen, Georgia, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025. Born on July 1, 2009, in Hampton Roads (Norfolk), Virginia, Mason brought joy and compassion into every space he entered.
He spent his early years in Newport News and Williamsburg, Virginia, where he built strong friendships and lasting memories. After moving with his family to Kathleen in July 2022, Mason became a part of the Houston County High School community, where he was a rising junior.
A proud member of the Houston County High School JROTC, Mason dreamed of one day joining the military. He was a previous Cadet and member of the Civil Air Patrol, where he experienced his first flight, and member of the 4-H Shotgun Club, where he took pride in representing his team and qualified for the state championship competition.
Mason had a brilliant and inquisitive mind, which was demonstrated in both his academic achievements and his personal love for challenging video games. He was a natural leader and teammate, always lifting others up, whether in the classroom, at team events, or in his community. He truly loved being outdoors. He enjoyed everything from camping and hunting (he even celebrated getting his first two deer!) to walking, mountain biking, or simply spending time with his friends, family, and pets. He enjoyed playing basketball and cherished time spent at Busch Gardens, the beach, and mountains with his framily. One of his favorite traditions was celebrating his birthday around the 4th of July, complete with fireworks, making it a shared celebration of joy.
Mason’s heart was filled with love for his family and friends. He looked forward to the annual trip to The Melting Pot for his parents’ anniversary and treasured moments with his first girlfriend and first love, Lucy. His best friend, Joseph, was like family, often joining them on family vacations and trips.
Those who knew Mason will remember his radiant spirit, kind heart, and deep intelligence. He had a unique gift for bringing comfort and happiness to those around him. He lived with purpose, always ready to lend a hand or share a smile. He enjoyed volunteering and spending time at the Friends of Perry Animal Shelter or at JROTC events.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving parents, John and Carrie Wimer; paternal grandparents; Susan Campbell Harper (Douglas), of Warner Robins and Ray Dell Wimer (Beth) of Raphine, Virginia; maternal grandparents, Tonda Morgan White (Tom) of Urbanna, Virginia and James Gordon Collier, III (Fran) of Winston Salem, North Carolina; uncles, Gordon Collier (Georgia) of Richmond, Virginia, Ray D. Wimer (Marybeth) of Raphine, VA, and Tim Wimer (Jamie) of Roanoke, VA and Cousins, Kelsey Collier of Denver Colorado and Abbey Collier, Blacksburg, Virginia.
A service to honor and celebrate Mason’s life will be held at a future date and time at The Farmhouse at McCullough Funeral Home.
