Mattie Bell Lawson, 67, passed away peacefully at her home on the evening of Friday, February 27, 2026. She was born on June 9, 1958, to the late Gussie Mae and Willie C. Lawson, Sr. Mattie was educated in the Houston County School System and later retired from Perdue Farms. She cherished time spent with her family and will be remembered for the love she shared with those closest to her.
In addition to Mattie’s parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Chavis Lawson and Johnny Washington, Jr.; and siblings, Lonnie C. Lawson, Sr., Julia Bellman, Willie Fred Lawson, Mary Lawson, and Joann Lawson.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving children, Shameka Jones of Atlanta, Shante Lawson and Shannon Lawson, both of Warner Robins, and Demetrius Lawson (Sharekia), Cortez Washington (Shena), Page Sarabia, and Dontabius Lawson, all of Bonaire; significant other, Johnny Washington, Sr.; 22 grandchildren; siblings, Willie C. Lawson, Jr. (Regina) and Kelly Lawson (Yolanda) both of Warner Robins, and Charlotte Lawson and Bobby Lawson, both of Kathleen; in-laws, Alma Lawson and Lisa Lawson, both of Kathleen; and a host of nieces, nephews, and family friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Sandbed Baptist Church. Afterward, Mattie will be laid to rest in Oaky Woods Cemetery in Kathleen.
