Maurice William Bennett

Maurice William Bennett, a proud United States Navy veteran and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Cordele, Georgia, at the age of 92.

Born on August 15, 1933, in Cordele, Georgia, Maurice was the son of the late Clyde and Dolly Bennett. He was raised in Cordele and later lived many years in Byron, Georgia, where he continued to embody the values of hard work, integrity, and service that defined his life and legacy.

Maurice honorably served his country in the United States Navy, retiring with the distinguished rank of Senior Master Chief Petty Officer. He was deeply proud of his naval service and his country, and he exemplified dedication, discipline, and leadership throughout his military career.

After retiring from the Navy, Maurice continued serving his country through civil service at Robins Air Force Base as an Equipment Specialist. He later retired from Civil Service, leaving behind a reputation for excellence, reliability, and an unmatched work ethic. Known as an extremely hard worker, Maurice approached every task with determination and pride.

A true jack of all trades, Maurice possessed the rare ability to fix nearly anything. Whether helping neighbors, friends, or family, he was always willing to lend his knowledge and skilled hands. He believed strongly in teaching by example and instilled in his children strong ethical values, practical skills, and the importance of responsibility and perseverance.

Maurice was also a proud Mason and Shriner, organizations through which he fostered fellowship, charity, and community service.

Above all, Maurice cherished his family. He taught them the importance of working together as a team and taking pride in everything they did. His guidance, strength, and steady presence shaped generations, leaving a lasting imprint on all who knew and loved him.

Maurice William Bennett will be remembered for his patriotism, unwavering work ethic, wisdom, and devotion to family. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down and the lives he touched through service, mentorship, and love.

In addition to his parents, Maurice was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannette Bennett; later by his wife, Linda Bennett; and by his children, Gail Marie Bennett and Russell Bennett.

His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Ronald Bennett of Massachusetts, Cheryl MacDonald (Rick) of Rhode Island, Janice Fisher (Michael) of St. Augustine, Florida, and Maurice W. Bennett, Jr. (Val) of Massachusetts; step children, Joseph Gandy (Kim) of Tennessee and Jennifer Roe of Byron; siblings, Janette Kelly, Ray Bennett, Wayne Bennett, Patricia Howell, Millard Bennett, and Tommy Bennett, Jr.; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and a special step-grandson, Curtis, who was close to his heart.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel. Afterward, Maurice will be laid to rest in Andersonville National Cemetery.
