Maurice "Vern" Braswell, a cherished husband, loving father, and dedicated serviceman, passed away on September 10, 2024, in Kathleen, Georgia. Born on September 2, 1940, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Vern lived a life marked by unwavering love, humor, and an unrelenting spirit of generosity.
Vern’s life was a testament to devotion and service. A proud veteran, he retired from the United States Air Force with the esteemed rank of Senior Master Sergeant, having honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. His commitment to others extended far beyond his military career; he became known in his community as the go-to handyman who could not say no. Whether fixing a leaky faucet or helping with a household chore, Vern's generosity knew no bounds. He was often seen lending a hand without asking for anything in return, his heart often too big to charge for his services.
At the core of Vern's world was wife, Nancy, whom he lovingly referred to as "My Girl." Their bond was legendary, and his devotion to her was evident to all who knew them. After her passing, Vern’s love remained steadfast; he visited her grave every day, a testament of a love that transcended even death. His life was a daily celebration of the deep affection he held for her, a love that remains a cornerstone of his legacy.
Vern was also a man of boundless energy, always tinkering with something, never idle, and always focused on making life better for those around him. His humor and playful spirit were a source of joy to many, with a knack for turning any situation into a light-hearted moment. Despite his own needs, he seldom spent money on himself, preferring to use his resources to support and uplift others.
A fierce protector of his family and a devoted friend, Vern’s impact was felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and an enduring love that will continue to inspire those he touched.
In addition to his beloved wife, Nancy Braswell, Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Edsel and Mary Braswell.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Maurica Esguerra (Diego) of Valrico, Florida and Michelle Spora (Greg) of Hernando Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Tyler Braswell of Kathleen, Georgia, Michaela Esguerra of Valrico, Florida, and Zachary Esguerra of Wildwood, Florida; great-granddaughter, Chloe Braswell; and a host of other family members and longtime friends.
