Mavis Beecher Van Bibber peacefully passed into her eternal home on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Mavis was born on April 23, 1937, in Wray, Georgia, to the late Eston and Lily Beecher. After graduating from high school, she continued her education with a passion for understanding and helping others. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Columbus State University before going on to receive her master’s degree from Stetson University. Mavis devoted more than 30 years to her career as a family therapist, offering guidance, compassion, and support to countless individuals and families throughout the years.

Faith was an important part of Mavis’s life. For many years, she attended Bonaire United Methodist Church and later became a part of the congregation at Christ United Methodist Church. One of her greatest joys was singing in the church choir, where she could share both her faith and her love of music.

Mavis embraced life with enthusiasm and an adventurous spirit. She loved to travel and enjoyed dancing and water skiing. She was also talented with her hands and found pleasure in sewing and creating beautiful things. When she was at home, she could often be found working in her garden, lovingly tending to her plants and enjoying the beauty and peace of the outdoors.

Above all else, Mavis loved her family deeply. Time spent with those she loved was precious to her, and she treasured the memories they created together.

Mavis lived a full and meaningful life—one marked by faith, service to others, adventure, and an enduring love for her family. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Major Richard A. Van Bibber, USAF (Ret.); son, Oren Lee, Jr.; stepson, Keith J. Van Bibber; and grandson, Alexander Van Bibber

Her memory will forever be treasured by her brother, William Beecher (Carla); daughter, Melody King; stepchildren, Mark Van Bibber (Ginger), Bruce Van Bibber (Marsha), and Eric Van Bibber (Misty); daughter-in-law, Erin Lee; grandchildren, Carrie Woods (Chris), Andrew Van Bibber (Lauren), Kirsten Small (Chris), Michael Van Bibber (Amber), Bradley Van Bibber (Jenn), Brian Van Bibber (Heather), twins, Chad and Chris Van Bibber, Tava Lee Chafin (Philip), Deven Lee, Abby Lee, Jadyn Dillinger (Bill), and Nathan Van Bibber (Anna); twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, with a memorial service following in the chapel. Mavis will be laid to rest in Douglas Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Mavis to Family Hospice at 4562 Forsyth Road, Suite 4, Macon, GA 31210 or Christ United Methodist Church at 511 Russell Parkway, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
