Merlan "Pat" Harnage

Merlan “Pat” Harnage, 77, entered into rest on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

Pat was born on January 17, 1946, in Moultrie, Georgia to the Late Caulie and Willie Harnage.

Pat proudly served his country as an Army Veteran during the Vietnam war era. His commitment to duty and dedication to his fellow soldiers earned him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. After his time in the army, he was a DJ for a local radio station. He then went on to work as a flight coordinator for Zantop. While working there, he had the opportunity to live in England for two years, and thoroughly enjoyed his time there.

Pat’s easy-going and laid-back temperament endeared him to everyone he met. He was always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the true spirit of selflessness and compassion.

In his leisure time, Pat was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves, showing support for his favorite teams. In addition to his love for sports, his bird “Chipper” was his lifelong friend for 23 years. Beyond his sports enthusiasm, Pat was also known for his remarkable handiness. 

His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Tangela Buchanan (Shawn) of Kathleen, and Derek Harnage (Gina) of Statesboro; grandchildren, Kalan Jones (Melissa), Mariah Carraway (Josh), Brennen Monk, A’leah Monk, Bryce Harnage (Ally), Tyson Harnage, and Cade Harnage; great-grandchildren, Annelise, Beckett, Emery, Lily, and Faith; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be Wednesday, August 2, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held immediately following in the chapel. Afterward, Pat will be laid to rest privately.
