Merry Jean Coble

March 11, 1948 — June 23, 2025

Warner Robins

Merry Herring Coble, beloved mother, grandmother, and lifelong educator, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born in Albany, Georgia, Merry graduated from Dougherty County High School before earning her master’s degree in English from Valdosta State University. Her passion for literature and the humanities led to a long and impactful career in education. She spent many years teaching Honors English, AP English, and Humanities at Northside High School and later at Houston County High School, where she retired. She was a devoted and inspiring teacher who touched the lives of countless students, many of whom remember her with deep fondness and gratitude.

Merry had an enduring love for literature, especially Southern Gothic writers such as William Faulkner, Harper Lee, and Flannery O’Connor. She also had a great appreciation for art and music, from the classical to the contemporary — though she often claimed the best pop music ended with the 1970s.

She is survived by her son, David Coble; her daughter-in-law, Jodi Coble; and her grandchildren, Max and Maggie Coble.

Merry will be remembered for her sharp mind, deep compassion, and unwavering love of learning. Her legacy lives on in the many students she inspired and in the hearts of those who loved her.

A memorial gathering will be on Saturday, July19, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Merry will be laid to rest privately.
