Michael Lawrence Beckman

January 23, 1965 — September 19, 2023

Michael Lawrence Beckman, 58, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Michael was born on January 23, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina. In his early years in Charleston, he was a fierce constant in the local music scene. He sang with the band Aftermath, as well as Children of the Grave, a Black Sabbath tribute band. He truly never gave up on music as his passion and his music still lives on (ReverbNation and SoundCloud). Michael was truly a ROCK STAR! He never budged from his superfan role with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He supported the Steelers through both good and lean years with a front row seat in front of the TV with his Steelers jersey and “Terrible Towel”. His cats, Fraidy and Opie, and his dogs, Zoey and Jezibel, were always nearby. Michael’s number one love was his family. He loved his wife, daughters, stepson, and mother-in-law. He stayed connected with his Charleston family until the end. To Michael, nothing was more important than family.

His parents, David and Joan Beckman, and father-in-law, James Sorrow, Jr., preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 18 years, Tina Beckman; children, Tabitha Nicole Beckman (Sean), Michael Christopher Lofton (Jessica), and Madeline Makynna Beckman; grandchild, Trevor Lofton; siblings, David E. Beckman (Tina), Brett W. Beckman (Sherry), Keith A. Beckman (Tricia), Neal P. Beckman (Cynthia), Anna Maria Lease, Lisa B. McLeod (Donnie), and Gina T. Harris; mother-in-law, Millie Sorrow, and brother-in-law, Jay Sorrow (Debbie); along with over 50 nieces and nephews scattered across South Carolina and Georgia.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4:30 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Michael will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
