Michael Duane Major “Mick”, 71, of Macon, Georgia, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and the many memories he created throughout a life filled with service, dedication, and heart.
Mick was born in Missouri on October 3, 1954. Raised in Iowa, Mick’s journey would take him across the country and around the world. He spent many years in North Carolina before eventually making Georgia his home. A proud patriot, Mick honorably served 19 ½ years in the United States Air Force, concluding his service with the rank of Master Sergeant. During his military career, he traveled extensively and proudly served as a Crew Chief on KC-10 aircraft at the time of his discharge. His commitment, discipline, and leadership left a lasting impression on all who served beside him.
Following his military career, Mick continued his passion for aviation and technology as an Avionics Specialist with Lockheed Martin, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2025.
Outside of work, Mick was a devoted father whose greatest joy came from supporting his children. Whether at practices, games, or sporting events, he was always there cheering from the sidelines. Having grown up playing sports himself, especially baseball — a game at which he excelled — he carried his love of athletics throughout his life. Mick was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels, NASCAR, and Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed the excitement of competition and the camaraderie sports brought to family and friends.
He also had a deep love for animals and cherished the many pets he cared for throughout the years, especially his beloved dog, Daisy, who held a special place in his heart.
Mick will be remembered for his loyalty, hard work, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched as a husband, father, son, brother, friend, serviceman, coworker, and devoted fan on the sidelines of life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Victoria K. Major; his father, Donald Eugene Major; and his brother, Donald “Mark” Major. He is survived by his children, Angela Major Archambault (Steve), Michael Curtis Major (Brian), Christopher Stilley, and Holly Major; his grandchildren, Bailee and Garrett Archambault; his mother, Martella “Marti” Holcomb Major; his siblings, Donna Flattery (Mike), Jeanne McCombs (Lonnie), and Norman Major (Sandy); along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mick will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
